Thank you 2016 | Thank YOU for a magical year

Friday, December 30, 2016

A lil bit something different from my usual blog posts today.
It is only 2 days until 2017.
2016 pass by like a wind. I thought I only enrolled college 2 weeks ago when it actually happened last.
End of the year, the time of the year where we look back on the things that have happened this year.

2016 to me is like....truly surprising. Like opening a treasure chest full of gems. Delighting.
The gems did not come literally in Rubies or Sapphires.
But it came in form of open opportunities, chances, risks, happiness, joy, friendships, supports, personal growths and many happy things. Ofcourse, there were some obstacles too along the way.
My life is not a fairytale.

I remembered in my blog post earlier this year (or end of 2015) that my wish and pray for the new year 2016 was to be happy.
Two days to end of 2016, I am concluding that the 'happy' that I prayed for has been answered.
I am happier in 2016 than I am in 2015.

The biggest change and step that I took this year was publicizing my beauty interests on social media platforms (mainly Instagram). I think it started in February.
To be honest, at first I had doubts about it. I had insecurities that I might receive negative responses from showcasing my passion.
I didn't get too much negatives, the positives definitely outweighs the bad.
Later on after a few months, I became comfortable with displaying my beauty interests.
I didn't expect that showing my interests would be like opening myself to doors of opportunities.
I've talked and met amazing people from all over the world.
How impactful social media is in bringing people of the same interests in one place.
I would like to thank the people for talking to me, becoming friends with me, spaz about Kbeauty with me and even sending me personal gifts.

A list of lovely people on Instagram I would like to thank, appreciate and be grateful about because they are simply amazing. I enjoyed talking to them so much. I didn't expect to make a whole lot of new positive friends, afterall, positive vibes are what you need in life. I appreciate the friendship that we have made. I wanted to meet all of you in real life. 2017 at Korea, OK?

I hope I mentioned everyone ><

I published a total post of 77 blog posts so far this year. Not so much because I am busy with the last leg of my college year. I aim to publish more blog postings in 2017.
I would like to thank my awesome blogger friends who has helped contributed to this blog:

Probably a quarter or half of my recent blog posts and Instagram contents wouldn't exist and the brands and their products won't be more recognized without the helpfulness, generosity and kindness of my sponsors, (beauty) companies that discovered me on my Instagram, approached me, allowed me and given me the opportunities to test out their products. Thank you for all the companies that sent me their products for me to test and share my reviews which can be helpful to people.

At the beginning of starting this blog, I didn't really have anything to blog about. I used to search for things around the house to review and just to publish a blog content. So I am really thankful for the generous and thoughtful packages from friends, the companies and businesses above and giveaway prizes that I won from giveaway hosts for helping me provide contents to my blog, for my blog readers, helping me to grow this blog and as a writer/author/blogger myself and helping me to improve my knowledge on skincare and its science. Never thought that skincare and cosmetics learning is so life changing and interesting beyond words.

Thank you to my blog readers for reading my blog and helping me to reach over 93K pageviews. I started with 0 visitors and getting this amount is overwhelming and brings me joy. Knowing that people are actually visiting and reading my blog makes me happy. Thank you for visiting and reading posts by me, Finn W♥.

Overall thank you everyone for contributing to my blog's growth, growth as a 'Blogger' and my personal growth, though my interest is beauty is becoming unhealthy....jk. If it is for good skin, self care and hygiene, why not?
Thank you Asian Beauty (AB) Community of Instagram♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Thank you everyone for everything. I cannot really find more words to express my gratitude.

Another big movement that I am going to attempt is that I will be finishing college very soon. 2 years of college feels like 2 weeks really. I am satisfied with all the work that I have done as a good student and totally have zero regrets even no regrets for not attempting further tasks for programming assignments. I would like to thank my lecturers for helping me with my assignments and for giving me the knowledge that I need. I also would like to thank my friends for going through the student pain (helping with assignments, group work etc) together. We are graduating soon!!!!!!!!!!

To the biggest part of my life, thank you to my family and close friends and thank you to oppa who is always supporting me, giving me encouragements, pushing me into doing something that I didn't know I am capable of, complimenting me and just being the amazing man he is.

The good and bad that has happened this year shaped me the way I am today, I am thankful for both of it and I know there will be more challenges I have to face in the coming future. I always say this that I appreciate and grateful for the good things that revolved around me, I really mean it and the bad things have taught me to be more cautious.

Most importantly. thank you God(الحمد لله) for everything in my life, the good and the bad.

This year has given me a big positive life change, mainly in terms of developing more seriousness towards blogging and sharing beauty reviews. I love and enjoy what I am doing. This amazing change is truly unexpected.

I hope everyone have had a great year. I pray that 2017 will be a good year for all of you.

I am already looking forward to whats in store for me in the coming year though I have no idea at all about what is going to happen. Ameen for all the good prayers.

Alive Lab Multi Ice Cream Review | Ice-Cream Cream?!

Monday, December 26, 2016

No, it is not an ice-cream cream. Though I wish it was.

안녕하세요/Hello~ I hope everyone had a splendid Christmas!
I had a family gathering/birthday celebration (not Christmas) yesterday and I enjoyed stuffing on the foodssssssss, especially the smoked bbq lamb, nyumsssss.
I love it when the taste of the bbq sauce is really present and the lamb is tender delicious and soft....
I want it now again.

Last week I received a cute package from Alive Lab, a Korean brand that I never heard of before until they approached me. They contacted me on Instagram DM and asked if I wanted to review their products.
I love exploring new beauty products so of course I accepted the kind offer.
Thank you for the opportunity to try out your products, Alive Lab! ^-^

I received three items;

2. Alive Lab Centella Dressing Powder (8ml)

3. Alive Lab Multi Ice Cream Sample

A cooling, moisturizing and whitening based cream containing major ingredients such as Glacier, Niacinamide, Green Tea Extract & Galactomyces Fermentation Filtrate

In this post I am focusing on talking about the Multi Ice Cream. I recently tested it out for 2 days (day and night). My review is below!

There is no English information on this cream on Alive Lab's website so I copied the English description where I found at KoreaDepart.

Product Description

Canada Glacier Water treats skin heat.

Galactomyces gives dry and sensitive skin moisture and healthy skin.

Light gel type texture.

How to Use

After face wash and toner, apply right amount gently on skin.

Major Ingredients

Canada Glacier Water, Niacinamide, Green Tea Extract, Galactomyces Fermented Filtrate

Full ingredients with CosDNA click HERE

I did not take photo of the texture (I forgot T_T). But anyways its texture is cloudy white gel texture that felt similar to Mizon Recovery Gel, has a very faint scent but in conclusion it is scentless. Absorbs quickly into the skin with no residues.

My Thoughts

It is lightweight indeed, after it absorbs, it makes my face plump, moisturized and hydrated without causing any oiliness, definitely suits oily skin types as a day time moisturizer. Since it is light, a thicker moisturizer can be layered on top too for drier skin types.

I did not feel any cooling sensation or anything and did not notice any whitening effects. It would be great if it really gives a cooling sensation because my country is hottttt.

The cream does not break me out nor clogged my pores. According to the CosDNA above, there are no really acne-causing, pore-clogging and irritating ingredients. Its ingredients list is pretty much simple too. The listing of its major ingredients:

Niacinamide: 6th
Canada Glacier Water: 3rd last
Green Tea Extract: 5th last
Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate: last ingredient

The claimed major ingredients are listed low that I feel like the cream is not doing anything other than being moisturizing.

It also has Adenosine for anti-aging.

Will I purchase the full size?

Despite not providing any cooling effects, whitening or anything, I might want purchase the full size to use as a light day time moisturizer and just because the multi ice cream logo is cute, but then there are many better lightweight based moisturizers out there, so I might not want to buy it too (but its cute......). I feel 50/50 about getting its full size, haha.

Where to purchase?

I cannot find its samples for sale, only its full size which is 100ml in a tub packaging.

• 14,000₩ (USD 11) at (Korea only)
• USD 19 at KoreaDepart (ships worldwide)
• USD 15 at Beautyboxkorea (ships worldwide)

For more information on Alive Lab, you can head over to their website at Their other products such as the cotton balls and centella powder are available to purchase at Wishtrend(ships worldwide) too.

Purpletale Setting the Scene Treatment Essence Review | A Fairy Tale Skincare

Thursday, December 22, 2016

Hello, Lovelies! I am not sure if you remember but I mentioned about this Fairy Tale-like brand, Purpletale in two of my blog posts before. I love the color scheme and concept of this brand, especially the way how they describe their products. I am back with another review of their product sponsored to me by the brand for review purposes.

I have been using this Purpletale Setting the Scene Treatment Essence since October, the amount I am left is not even close to half and its been doing good things to my skin!

Price: USD 35/130ml

The best stories start strong, and that’s how yours should, too — each and every day! Our treatment essence sets the perfect foundation for your beauty routine by improving your skin's texture and clarity.

This lightweight essence starts you off with a hydrating base that instantly perks up your skin, leaving you glowing from the inside out. Is it just us, or is this story off to a great start?

Loaded with ginseng, peptide complexes, adenosine and niacinamide, this lightweight treatment essence will set the right tone for your day. It helps hydrate, brighten and smooth fine lines for that oh-so-coveted glow.  Perfect for all skin types.

With daily use, this essence will improve skin’s overall texture and contribute to a more beautiful, balanced, and glowing complexion.

I super love the box! Any trigonometry lovers here?? I say no to Maths and any Maths related stuffs bahahaha

The body is hard glass bottle which can be fragile and break into pieces once it fell off a high area. I don't want to lose its goodness so I've been taking care and using it carefully. I like the purple light metallic cap, the wordings on it are printed instead of stickers The overall packaging has some kind of lush feel to it.

It can be bulky for travelling but you can always decant it into a smaller bottle. I commute weekly during school days and I never experienced leaks with this product. I will feel devastated if it leaks.

Product can sustain for up to 12 months after opening. MFG and EXP dates are printed on the bottom.
MFG: 28.8.2015
EXP: 27.8.2018

How To Use
Set the scene twice a day by applying an appropriate amount of our treatment essence to your fingertips, then gently pat onto cleansed face and neck.

The dispenser is through a small hole with a stopper, it doesn't go all out at once so theres no spills.

 Main Ingredients
This fluid type of essence will help hydrate, brighten and smooth fine lines while supporting skin cell renewal.

Ginseng saponin: The hero of our story; this revolutionary ingredient of Asian skincare saves the day with nourishing and antioxidant properties to help restore and preserve a more youthful look.

Peptide complexes: Time machines are no longer just for sci-fi and fantasy tales. This anti-aging powerhouse prompts natural collagen production to reverse the signs of aging.

Adenosine: this ingredient doesn’t believe in reading between the lines, just getting rid of them - without irritating or inflaming your skin in the process. This yeast-derived ingredient penetrates deeply into skin to improve appearance of wrinkles and fine lines while supporting healthy cell function.

Niacinamide: also known a vitamin B, though we consider it more as your skin’s vitamin-packed BFF. This tried-and-true ingredient has a reputation for treating uneven skin tones, reducing acne, and soothing skin redness. Sounds like the perfect sidekick to us.

Water, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol Denat., Glycerin, Niacinamide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Diglycerin, Betaine, Hydroxyethylcellulose, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Dimethicone, Allantoin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hyaluronate, Polyglutamic Acid, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Copper Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, Pueraria Mirifica Root Extract, Ginsenosides, Fragrance

Alcohol is 3rd in the list if you are concern.

Consistency is clear, not as watery, it is a bit thick but still runny. If you've tried Purpletale products before, you know they have that Purpletale's signature scent. The smell is pleasant, something that I want my living room and candles to smell like. No alcohol scent detected.

A little goes a long way with this essence. After tapping it on my face, it quickly absorbs and leaves a matte finish with a bit of a glow, it is not sticky so I can immediately carry on with my next product without waiting, it is lightweight indeed. It is a bit moisturizing and makes my skin soft. I love sniffing the product's scent.

I've been using this a little over 2 months, the time frame is appropriate to say my thoughts about the essence's effectiveness.

It doesn't break me out
Smells nice
It helps as a hydration layer in my skincare routine due to the presence of multi-peptides
Helps to provide that glow from inside out
I don't really have fine lines for it to smooth out but I think it helps with anti-aging, thanks to the Ginsenosides (Ginseng).
A little goes a long way, will last for months

I don't really notice any brightening, acne treating and skin soothing, that is probably because my skin doesn't react well with niacinamide and in terms of brightening, the only brightening ingredient that I know of in the list is niacinamide.
I don't really have other bad things to say about this product. Other than the above two statements, this product does what it claims.

My Final Thoughts
I enjoy using this product, I like how it helps as a hydrating layer to my skincare routine and I love its scent, but I am a girl with concerns, I have acne scars to whiten so I am looking for essences that can treat my skin concerns. When I finished this essence, I don't see myself purchasing it now as I am looking for essences that can treat my skin problems but I might want to go back to using this essence in the future for anti-aging. It is not a bad product.

This product is recommended for all skin types and I personally agree with that. Dry skin to all skin types, this essence is helpful as a hydration layer and prevent fine lines.

Thank you for reading! Thank you, Purpletale♥ for sending me this Essence for review ^-^ If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me in the comments below or contact me in any of my social media outlets.

For more information, you can head over to the product's direct page HERE
If you'd like to purchase this essence and other Purpletale products, head over to their official website at They ship WORLDWIDE.

Neulii Tea Tree BHA Blemish Control Serum vs Cosrx Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol | Comparison Review

Wednesday, December 21, 2016

Hello, People! I am doing another comparison post for all of you. The reason why I am doing this is because these two products are ALMOST SIMILAR to each other, they have alot of similarities but please keep in mind that they are NOT EXACTLY the same. They both have similar functions and ingredients though they are not the same type of product to start with (eg. Cosrx A-Sol is used a toner while Neulii is a serum). This comparison might help you guys with your decision making, I hope I covered everything well!

The comparison I am doing is between Cosrx Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol and Neulii Tea Tree BHA Blemish Control Serum. Both are Kbeauty products that are targeted to solve breakouts and problematic skin. The Cosrx is more popular than the Neulii, many are loving the A-Sol, it is one of Cosrx most raved products. Neulii on the other hand is created by the Kbeauty onlinestore Roseroseshop, I bought Korean makeup and skincare a couple of times from this seller, I was happy upon hearing that they launched their own skincare brand earlier this year.

I am going to start the comparison with the products' description.

Cosrx Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol description

Neulii Teatree BHA Blemish Control Serum:
A Serum containing natural BHA and tea tree ingredient, arranging sebum control and dead skin cells to prevent skin trouble.

Both descriptions are the same which are to control sebum, remove dead skin cells and prevent skin troubles.

Plastic body with a plastic cap. I commute weekly so when I had Cosrx in my routine, I packed it when I arrived at my second place, the cap came off and product is leaked T___T so yeah leakage is possible with the Cosrx.

Body is opaque white so you can't really see the amount you have left.

Leakage is possible too with the Neulii but I never experience it. The body is study and hard, kind of have a feel that it is a glass but not really, it is this frosty hard material. Comes with a clear plastic cap too.

Body is clear so you can easily see the amount you have left.

WINNER: Neulii

Cosrx & Neulii
Both are using pump dispenser, easy to press but I like the Neulii pump better though they are basically the same.

WINNER: Neulii

To be used during the toner stage since it is also ph adjusting, it has a ph level of 4~5. It can also be used as a spot treatment, so it is multi-purpose.

To be used during the serum stage after toner and essence, not sure the ph level of this. I don't think it will be suited as toner because its consistency is a bit thick than the Cosrx.

WINNER: none.

Amount & Sustainability

100ml. I like using cotton pad for my toners, I needed 8 pumps for the A-Sol to give me a satisfying amount.

100ml. Since this is a serum stage, no cotton pads are needed. One pump is enough to apply to my targeted areas.

WINNER: In terms of lengitivity, Neulii. I run out of the Cosrx quickly (1~2 months) due to its watery consistency and I have to pump out alot for it to cover my cotton pad entirely. The Neulii will last me months, I only need one pump to cover my whole face.

Cosrx A-Sol ingredients

Neulii ingredients

Both contains AHA & BHA.

Cosrx & Neulii
♥ BHA percentage of Cosrx is 1% while Neulii is 0.2%

♥ Cosrx has a total of 16 ingredients while Neulii has 17

♥ 13 of the same ingredients are found in both Cosrx and Neulii but their arrangement listings are different:

ALCOHOL: in Cosrx it is placed 2nd while it is 4th in Neulii, both of the alcohol sitting are in top 10
AHA in Cosrx are Glycolic Acid (5th) and Lactic Acid (7th) while Neulii only has Lactic Acid (9th ingredient)

♡ Both contains Allantoin (higher listing in Cosrx than Neulii) which is to actively soothe skin

♡ Both contains Cassia Obtusifolia Seed Oil for anti-aging

♡ Both contains Tea Tree Leaf Oil and is listed as the very last ingredient in both

♥ What are present in Cosrx but not in Neulii: Propolis Extract (First ingredient), Glycolic Acid AHA (7th ingredient). Propolis can be used for skin soothing while the AHA is used for the product's benefits to penetrate into skin deeply by exfoliating dead skin cells to improve its effects and prevent breakouts.

♥ What are present in Neulii but not in Cosrx: Willow Bark Water (2nd ingredient), Tea Tree Leaf Water (3rd). Both Willow Bark Water and Tea Tree are used for skin soothing and tea tree can prevent breakouts.

♥ Neulii has 2 tea tree based ingredients (tea tree leaf oil and leaf water) while Cosrx only has one which is the tea tree leaf oil.

WINNER: this is hard to decide, I cannot choose because it is a matter of one's skin. If your skin reacts well with Propolis in terms of soothing or helping with your skin troubles then Cosrx A-Sol might be the one for you.

If your skin loves tea tree more in terms of clearing skin troubles then Neulii might be the one for you.

In my case, tea tree works better for me sometimes, and also because I haven't experience much with propolis products (they break me out sometimes).

Texture & Scent

Clear and runny, fully absorb into skin with a matte finish after 20~ minutes. Face feels a bit sticky during the waiting time and you can feel it lying on top of your skin, it is not that bad though, it is just that my next product (essence) won't be able to absorb during waiting period. I think that this product can be time consuming in the morning if you have something to fo.

Has a strong tea tree smell.

Clear and watery but NOT as watery as the Cosrx. This fully absorbs into skin with a matte finish after a 5~10 minutes, non-sticky and can carry on with my next product (moisturizer or sheetmasks) quickly. Has a tea tree smell but Cosrx has it stronger.

WINNER: I am fine with both of the smells, I know some do not like the strong tea tree smell in the Cosrx and others find the Neulii to smell like rubbing alcohol (I don't find it to be that way though).

Cosrx & Neulii
The Cosrx stings my wounded acne for a few seconds but the Neulii does not give me any stinging, both does not break me out.

WINNER: Neulii

Doesn't do anything despite using up 2 bottles of it. I tried various ways to make it work but I have no luck with this product. You can read my review on it HERE. but I know this product works on many people.

This used to work for me in terms of making the acne scars to look less angry but now that my skin got used to it, it doesn't do much of it anymore. I am not sure now if it helps with my acne.

WINNER: Neulii? at least it does things for me in the past.

Sebum Control

Cosrx & Neulii
I don't feel my face being oily nor I notice any difference. So I guess both of them works fine in controlling sebum.

WINNER: both.

Currently on Jolse: USD 14.40

Currently on Jolse: USD 14.55

WINNER: with only 15 cents difference, the Cosrx won, haha but their price difference is like of an ant anyway so basically they are both priced the same.

Overall Winner: Neulii

But then the result is depending on what works for your skin. This is just my opinion.

Thank you for reading! Now what do you think of both of them? Which one will suit for you better?

So I guess thats all I can say without these two. After reading, you may realise that they are basically the same product that does the same thing, they have alot in common. I hope I am doing this comparison well and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me in any of my social media.

Boomdeahdah Mild & Pure Cleansing Oil | Comparison Review

Tuesday, December 20, 2016

Hello, Everyone! Not sure if I can call this a comparison review because there is ONLY ONE (or two or three) difference between these two hahah anyway, lets get into it!

Sometime in August, I received an unexpectedly generous package from Boomdeahdah, a Korean Beauty company. Their motto is "We Love The World" which I think is cute. I can't get much info about the company since there is no English translation on their website, but the motto seems to mean that they are focusing on using natural ingredients.

I received a total of 6 products from them, they are too kind! In this post I am just going to talk about 2 of the products I received to review, which are their MILD and PURE cleansing oils. I've talked about their Pure Cleansing Water and Eye & Lip Makeup Remover on my Instagram, both which I really love and wanted to purchase.

Boomdeahdah Mild Cleansing Oil(180ml)
Price: 8,900₩

Ingredients of the Mild Cleansing Oil

Boomdeahdah Pure Cleansing Oil(180ml)
Price: 7,900

Ingredients of the Pure Cleansing Oil

Texture is clear watery but a bit thick. It has some kind of artificial scent to plastic smell. Not that it bother me though. Consistency, scent and finish of both Mild and Pure versions are the same.

Since it is a cleansing oil, of course it leaves an oily film on the skin, but it is not too heavy. I don't mind because I always go straight for 2nd cleanser. When mixed with water, it emulsifies well, turned to white and mixes with the impurities and makeup on the face.

Here I am going to demonstrate how well it removes makeup. Above photo I abused my hand with lipsticks, waterproof eyeliners (heart shapes) and eyeshadows.

I massaged the dirty area with cotton pad and look how clean it is!

Aftermath of the cotton pad. Anyway I find that they don't really erase lip stains/lip tints that is tinted on the skin, they are stubborn to be removed anyway.

Above is the demonstration using the Pure Cleansing Oil as I've already emptied the Mild Cleansing Oil (I stopped using it after finding out that it broke me out so I used the remainder to clean my makeup brushes and decanted it).

I must say that both removed face makeup efficiently and cleanses impurities on the face well.

1. Price
The difference of the cost between both of them is just 1,000₩ where the Pure version is cheaper than the Mild version.

2. Ingredients
If you noticed, the ingredients are 99.9% same, except for ONE ingredient that is present in the Mild version but absent in the Pure version, which is Isopropyl Myristate, a thickening agent.

3. Irritation
My skin broke out from using the Mild version but not the Pure version. This is probably because the absence of the Isopropyl Myristate in the Pure version, I looked up that it has a comedogenic rating of 5 (super high) and irritation level of 3 (high) (source). I am going to be cautious for that ingredient now. I suspect that the ingredient is the cause of my breakouts *screw you for giving me bad skin days*

I guess thats all the comparisons that I have to say about, the main difference for me is that the Mild version broke me out while the Pure version does not. I've been loving the Pure version and I am still using it now, I might empty it at the end of the month or in January 2017. I want to purchase it someday.

so, the winner is....Boomdeahdah Pure Cleansing Oil!
It doesn't break me out and it cleanses well.

Anyway these products do not contain alcohol and parabens, in case if any if you care.

Thank you for reading! What do you guys think of these cleansing oils?

For more information on Boomdeahdah, you can head over to Their products can be purchased through the website and for international consumers, Boomdeahdah products can be purchased through Gmarket, simply search for 'Boomdeahdah' on Gmarket and you will see the company's profile selling their products.

I saw Boomdeahdah products on eBay too but I don't really recommend buying from them as I've noticed that the prices are too hiked up than the original affordable price.

Thank you, Boomdeahdah for giving me the opportunity to test out your products!

Photos are my own. Products are provided to me by Boomdeahdah for review purposes. My thoughts and experiences are honest and true. What works for me doesn't necessarily will work for you and what did not work for me doesn't necessarily won't work for you too.

Mirirang Recovery Spray Toner and Mirirang Repair Cream Review | Korean Skincare With Natural Wheatgrass Extract

Monday, December 19, 2016

Sometime around August, I was sent a package by Mirirang Korea for review. The package contains Mirirang Recovery Spray Toner and Mirirang Repair Cream. I've been using the products since then and have already emptied them now, so I can share my final reviews about them with all of you. They also included face masks and a bar soap from Vispera, I think they are from the same brand but with different a name. I will talk about the Vispera products in my future blog post.

Mirirang is specializing in having special and strong secrete of natural wheatgrass extract in their products to make skin younger.

1. Why is Wheatgrass good?

Wheatgrass contains the various vitamins and powerful antioxidant ingredients that protect the moisturizing factor of the skin, especially carbohydrate, zinc, niacin, rievaulx peullamin, copper, protein, vitamin A, B6, C, E, K.

Also, 8 essential amino acids, 20 amino acids and more than 80 enzymes are abundant in the wheatgrass. It contains vitamin C, 6 times citrus fruits and mineral, 18 times spinach and chlorophyll, 23 times vegetable.

Mirirang toner and cream soothe the surface of the skin, from external layers of the skin that prevent loss of moisture and make the dry skin soft and clean.

2. The Effect of Skin Lightening and Wrinkle Improvement

These products contain niacinamide and adenosine, the elements certified by Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, to help with skin lightening and wrinkle improvement.

Niacinamide is a skin lightening element that is proved safe and is a water-soluble Vitamin B complex, it prevents skin discoloration, improves skin color and make skin bright and healthy.

Adenosine is used for wrinkle improvement, it weakens aging process in skin to strengthen the elasticity of it and improve wrinkles.

The natural complex components of wheatgrass are tea tree oil, sunflower seed oil and peppermint for extra whitening.

Tea tree oil is extracted from tea tree used to soothe sensitive and irritated skin.

Sunflower seed oil is rich in vitamin and minerals, it helps to retain skin's elasticity and when used constantly, it makes skin soft, vivid and taut.

Peppermint is a grass that provides cooling, it is a plant that is used for food, spice, tea and beauty for a very long time since the Ancient period.

3. Baby Face Secrets; super layers of preventing loss of moisture with nutrients and vitamins

Wheatgrass helps with damaged skin with appropriate moisture and nutrition that are rich in Vitamin A, C, E and phytosterols, bioflavonoid, minerals etc to make the sensitive and rough skin well moisturized and healthy.

Descriptions and directions of Mirirang Recovery Spray Toner and Repair Cream.

Mirirang Recovery Spray Toner(150ml)
Price: 38,500

I love its packaging. Its body is plastic with sheer green color, you can see the amount you have left with due to its transparency. At the top near the spritzer, it is coated with a light gold color. The wordings are printed and are not stickers. It sprays a massive amount of fine mist.

♥ Wheat is listed 3rd in the list. Since it is high in the list, you can expect it to provide all the wheatgrass goodness that was mentioned earlier.
♥ Niacinamide is listed 4th, unsure about its % but it is high in the list, so you can expect for the whitening functions to work, especially when your skin reacts well with niacinamide.
♥ I personally think that the tea tree, sodium hyaluronate (moisturizing), peppermint oil and adenosine (anti-aging) are low in the list.

My Thoughts

The consistency is liquid, since it sprays a massive amount of fine mist, I find it ultra moisturizing. It doesn't smell like wheatgrass but it smells like peppermint. I don't find the smell to be overwhelming. At first I was cautious due to the scent but later I got used to it.

After tapping in the mist, it gives a dewy complexion on the face, it makes my face to look chok chok.

Though it is ultra-moisturizing after spraying, I don't find it to be really hydrating, but you can always mist your face time to time.

I only got to use the toner a couple of times and leave the rest to my body because it broke me out. I didn't get to observe the whitening effects too. Maybe my skin was reactive to something in the toner.

I wouldn't want to use this again since it broke me out but it is a good toner that makes your skin refreshed, moisturized and dewy.

Mirirang Repair Cream(100ml)
Price: 44,000₩

Body is sturdy plastic and I like the gold cap!

♥ The Wheat is listed as the 4th ingredient in the cream
♥ Niacinamide is listed a bit far in the cream than in the toner, it is 9th in the list
♥ Has more moisturizing ingredients such as Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Shea Butter, Sunflower Seed Oil and Echium Plantegineum Seed Oil
♥ And again, the good ingredients (tea tree oil, peppermint oil, adenosine and sodium hyaluronate) are listed at the end of the list

Texture is white rich cream, smells same as the toner (peppermint scent), it is not thick to dissolve and easy to spread.

My Thoughts

After massaging it on my face, it gives a glowy complexion, moisturization and hydration. Since it is hydrating, it contributes to its anti-wrinkle claim. As for whitening, I do not notice any difference especially on my acne scars. Besides the only whitening ingredient in the cream that I know of is Niacinamide.

I only get to use the cream for a couple of weeks only since it clogged my pores. It must've been heavy for my oily skin. If you have dry to normal skin types, this might suit your skin better, I used the remaining amount for my body. It always make my body moisturized. It does great for my body but I wouldn't want to purchase this.

Overall it is not a bad cream, it just doesn't suit with my easily clogged skin. It won't clog my pores if I decrease the layers in my skincare routine, but I don't want to use something that clogs my skin. It is a great cream for moisturization, hydration and anti-wrinkle.

As for the price, I think that they are a bit pricey and considering that the main good ingredients are listed very low. I think the price is focused more towards their packaging or the cost and process to obtain the wheat is high.

HOLY SNAILS! (Snowbang Essence, Perseids Oil, Shark Sauce) Reviews

Monday, December 12, 2016

Heres to one of the longest overdue and most requested reviews to date (well not really, maybe like only 10 out of  the 1.8k Instagram followers that I have). Yes, I am a horrible person to keep one's curiosity for long. The reviews are here now, I try my best to be detailed as possible. Here you go, have a pleasure reading!

So sometime around 22 weeks ago in June 2016, I received these babies that I used from a gift card giveaway that I won in IG. This Tres Amigos Sampler Set costs USD 24, I used the gift card that was worth USD 25 and only paid for the shipping to Brunei, which was around USD 5. If you are an avid AB(Asian beauty)-er like me on Instagram then I am sure you are familiar or 've stumbled across the Holy Snails account.

The set includes:
Shark Sauce (without the actual shark fyi) - 5ml
Perseids Oil - 5ml
Snowbang Essence - 6ml

For those who have never heard of them, well here is an extract taken from their About us page:

"Chel is a skincare blogger over at Holy Snails and has a passion for DIYing and coming up with things. (Read:  She's a nerd.)  She has a background in Chemistry and Biology, and after she discovered Kbeauty, it was just a matter of time before she tried to tinker with it.  Chel hangs with her Snailbaes over at the Snailcast Kbeauty podcast, where they talk about all things Kbeauty.  She makes all of the products for the shop, and is constantly writing new recipes, which is why we made the Snail Mail program so she could get feedback to better develop and refine the products.

We are proud to say we are now a mom and pop shop!  Hubby Snails has joined the team as the overworked and underpaid intern.  He likes woodworking and metalworking, and he's got his own 4(ish) step routine too!  He handles all the shipping for the biz and some of the customer support.

We started out as a little Facebook group running on Google Forms.  The batches would sell out within 30 seconds and it was a mad frenzy.  To make the process more streamlined and easier for people to use, we eventually opened the shop on a small platform.  New product releases would actually crash the shop, we are!"

Holy Snails is a homemade business that makes Kbeauty inspired products.

"Great Ingredients.  No Fillers.

Why water down a serum with boring fillers when we can give it some nutrient-rich Fermented Sea Kelp or delicious Avocado Oil instead?  Our products have star ingredients at known, useful concentrations, so there's no need to guess, and every ingredient serves a purpose.

Through our Snail Mail program, we are constantly testing new ingredients, such as Donkey Milk and Snail Secretion Extract.  Only those prototypes that are beloved by the testers get considered for our lineup.

 Handmade & Made Fresh.

We make all of our products in micro batches, which allows us to effectively use powerhouse ingredients that have shorter shelf lives such as Ceramides to restore your skin's barrier, or Borage Seed Oil which has the highest amounts of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) in seed oils.

 But Why?

Our ideas for products all come from the need to fill a gap.  How do we know if a product has enough niacinamide?  Why are all hanbang (Traditional Oriental Herbal Medicine) products so heavy and heavily fragranced?

From those questions, we created Shark Sauce (which has 5% Niacinamide) and Snowbang Essence (which has over two dozen botanical extracts, but is featherlight and the scent comes only from the extracts themselves).  We are constantly developing new answers through our R&D program, Snail Mail." - source.

It was a real fate to get these babies especially the Shark Sauce because I swear I always see it whenever I logged in into my IG. I thought it looked small and cute and I also saw positive reviews on it, many people are liking it too so of course when a majority likes and uses that one product, I develop the need to try the product as well. I emptied all of the cuties now so I can share my final thoughts of them.

The contents may be little (5ml to 7ml). I first thought it wouldn't last me long but I was wrong. They lasted for weeks, especially for the Shark Sauce (I documented my journey with it below), it lasted me about 6 weeks despite using day and night daily.

Body of the Snowbang Essence and Shark Sauce are plastic that I can squeezed with ease, all of them comes with a twist cap that requires you to push it down first and then turn clockwise to release the cap. Body of the Perseids Oil is plastic too but harder, it was a bit hard to squeeze.

All of them came with the most tiniest dropper ever, even the droplet is a micro. It is a good dispenser because it saves the product from coming out too much, considering that the actual content is already a small amount. The bottles are definitely great for travels due to its small size and I don't think it will spill since the caps really secures the content.

I am starting my review with the Perseids Oil first, then Snowbang Essence and last one is Shark Sauce because I documented it.

Perseids Oil

"Perseids Oil is a facial oil blend rich in antioxidants. It has Tocopherol (Vitamin E), a powerful oil-soluble antioxidant, Bisabolol, an anti-irritant that comes from chamomile, and Squalane, a skin-identical emollient, along with many delicious fruit and nut oils.

As this is made fresh in micro batches, we can use great ingredients that have shorter shelf lives such as Evening Primrose Oil, Rosehip Oil, and Borage Seed Oil.  Refrigeration is not required for this product, but would help extend the effectiveness of some of these ingredients.

Suitable for:  Dry to Normal  (Those with Oily or Combination skin might want to consider a sample sized bottle first, as this might be too heavy for them.)" - source.

Texture is yellowish-like-of-an-oil color, runny, has a light coconuty smell. Since it is runny, I thought that it wouldn't be thick, and then after I massaged it, it felt like a light facial oil. I personally think that it is not too heavy. When my skin was dehydrated, I even applied this twice at night. It absorbs into my skin and left an oily feeling that is not greasy, you know how it is like when you apply facial oils. 3-4 drops was enough to cover my whole face, a little goes a long way.

This makes my skin all moisturized and hydrated. It didn't break me out at first but then after not using it for awhile, it broke me out, probably because since the mentioned ingredients above have a shorter life shelves, but its life expectancy after opening is 6 I don't know. I regretted that I didn't refrigerate it and didn't try it under my eyes for some nourishment.

This would be a great product for those who have dry skin or dry patches. I have an oily skin and I do not think I will be needing this, also since my skin gets easily clogged from using heavy things. Using this made my skin felt nice when I woke up in the morning though.

Snowbang Essence

"Snowbang Essence does not contain snow. It has pre-snow though (or post?). It was named after one of our muses, Snow White & The Asian Pear, and her undying love for hanbang (Traditional Oriental Herbal Medicine) products, as this was originally created for her.

Snowbang Essence is a featherlight essence with 5% Ceramides Complex to keep your skin's barrier healthy, and a smorgasbord of two dozen hanbang/herbal extracts to feed and soothe your face.  The Hydrolyzed Oats is what gives it that silky soft finish, and helps to hydrate your skin.  This essence is chock full of extracts, but to name a few, Ginseng, Horse Chestnut, Chamomile, Centella Asiatica, Calendula, and Licorice Root are prized extracts for their soothing and brightening abilities.

Suits for all skin types" -source.

Snowbang Essence is featherlight indeed. It actually has a very faint yellow color to it, but it looks clear in the photo. It is runny and smells like spices(or was it cinnamon?) that are pleasant and not itching to the nose.

Life expectancy of Snowbang Essence after opening is 6 months.

I first used it alone and I needed 10 drops to cover my whole face, it felt wasteful so I switched to mixing it into my serums and ampoules with only 1 or 2 drops. When used alone, it fully absorbed into my skin, left my face matte and provides a bit of moisturization. I needed to follow up with an extra moisturizer. I applied day and night for a few weeks.

Refrigeration is recommend and I regretted that I did not do that because I was unaware of the directions *slaps self*. Maybe it could have shown better results on me. I unfortunately did not experience any soothing nor brightening abilities as it claims to. I just thought my face felt healthy throughout using it. The ingredients list are great though sigh.

Shark Sauce

"Shark Sauce™ does not contain sharks, shark extract, shark wings, or any other shark derivatives. Its name comes from a nickname of one of our muses, Fifty Shades of Snail, for whom it was originally created.

Shark Sauce™ is a hydrating serum that contains 5% Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) and 3% N-Acetyl Glucosamine, which work together synergistically to fight hyperpigmentation.  They, along with Panthenol (Vitamin B5), also work to help improve your skin barrier.

Licorice Root and Green Tea Extracts soothe and brighten skin, while Hyaluronic Acid and Sodium Lactate (the sodium salt of Lactic Acid, a popular AHA) hydrate.  The Sea Kelp Bioferment is the result of sea kelp fermented with Lactobacillus, which breaks it down into more bioavailable compounds for your skin to use.  It is a natural film former, and functions as a great oil-free moisturizer.

Suitable for all skin types" -source.

I was looking forward to use this one the most because it is related to my skin concerns, which is PIH, it claims to help to fading it. The texture is like of a thick serum, clear and not runny, it does not have a scent. I only applied it to the targeted areas only which are my dark spots/acne scars/PIH. One drop of it goes a long way since the texture is thicker. After applying onto the areas, it took awhile for it to be fully absorbed, I waited for 10~15. Why wait? Because it felt a bit sticky and it seemed like I cannot continue layer more skincare above. It absorbed fully after the wait with a matte finish. I applied day and night for 5 weeks.

Life expectancy of Shark Sauce after opening is 12 months.

This was my skin condition when I first started using the Shark Sauce which was on 4th September 2016. I wanted to do a documentation to see if it is really doing its job and so that I won't be imagining things like 'it really did help fading my PIH!". As you can see my skin condition was not at its best during that time fucking bumpy. September is like the worst skin month for me this year because I tried and tested new products that broke me out badly >< I recently saw a comment on Green Day's Wake Me Up When September Ends MV that says, "bad things always happen in September". I agreed with that for this year.

So here is the documentation of my 5 weeks journey with Shark Sauce. I focused on fading that one nasty deep red PIH near my jawline.

♥After using it for a week, I saw no difference on dates 12th and 18th September 2016.
♥The right red raised a bump and turned into acne on 19th September 2016.
♥The acne calmed on 25th September 2016 but the red spot beside it burst into acne, it was its turn next ><
♥The redness started to fade on week 4 on 2nd October 2016. I also had a third PIH friend joining me (the reddest spot) and it only took one week for its redness to be reduced (maybe because I implemented an extra whitening product in my routine that time. Can't remember).
♥I emptied the product sometime on 6th October 2016. The last photo was taken without using the Shark Sauce because I finished it and thats the end result of fighting my PIH with Shark Sauce that contains 5% Niacinamide.

After trying this product, it is confirmed that niacinamide does not do a good job for me in terms of fading PIH/brightening/whitening. My skin reacts better with acids like Citric or Ascorbic where it only took a week for the acne scar to disappear.

If your skin reacts well with niacinamide in terms of whitening, this might work better on you than on me. The amount of niacinamide added is generous which is 5%.

I kind of hate my steel skin sometimes (by means products react slowly or zero on me). I should become the woman of steel.

My Final Thoughts

It is unfortunate that these awesome self-made products with greatly chosen ingredients did not work well on me :( If you wanted to give them a try, they have the sample sizes of each available. You can check out the prices and buy them here: Holy Snails Samples. They ship worldwide.

These products are not that cheap. The sample of the Shark Sauce (5ml) costs USD 7, it is understandable since they are handmade. If you are on a a budget/broke student like me there are always samples to try before jumping into the full size wagon,
